What you'll find in this guide
This particular guide is aimed at instructing you on the use of the library and its resources. You will find:
- Contact information for staff members: For best service, please contact the appropriate person.
- Hours of operation: The library is open during the indicated hours. During off hours, you may access many of our resources online.
- Instructions on searching for information
- Instructions on finding paper, digital (CDs and DVDs), and electronic resources (databases and journals)

All Winthrop employees may borrow from the library. All you need to do is register at the circulation desk. If you are a resident or a student, please bring the papers you received from the Academic Affairs office. Note that you must sign out when your term is over. All materials must be returned and fines paid before you may sign out from the hospital.

Smartphone chargers are also available for 2-hour in-library checkout. There is a $1.00 charge per minute, for late returns.
You may have six items checked out at any given time.
Reference (books whose call number begins with REF), reserve materials, computer applications (Microsoft, Adobe, EndNote), and journals (except for Clinics) do not circulate.
If you wish to renew an item, there's no need to bring it to the library; just stop in, call 663-2802, or renew online in the library catalog. The fine for overdue items is $.20 per day, counted from the date the item was due.
For interlibrary loan requests, please use the Request Form.
Or you can bring in, phone (663-2802), fax (663-8171), or e-mail Kathleen Darby a full citation including:
- UI or PMID (number found at the top of a Medline citation)
- title of article
- journal name
- volume & issue number
- date of issue
and we will be happy to get your needed article.
Please check the library's journal holdings list to make sure that your needed article is not owned by the library.
